Software Developer Occupational Study Participant (Remote Contract)
About the Role
A structured occupational research initiative is seeking experienced software developers to contribute professional insights that help improve standardized descriptions of software development roles. Participants will share knowledge gained through real-world software engineering experience to support research and workforce classification efforts.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced software developers who have recently worked in hands-on development roles and can accurately describe the responsibilities, decision-making processes, and technical activities involved throughout the software development lifecycle.
The work involves completing a one-time online survey or interview of approximately 30 minutes, with the possibility of additional paid follow-up activities. Success depends on practical experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining software systems.
What You'll Do
- Complete a one-time online occupational survey or interview.
- Provide accurate information about day-to-day software development responsibilities.
- Describe software design, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance activities.
- Share practical insights into development workflows and technical decision-making.
- Participate in optional follow-up research activities if invited.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working specifically as a software developer.
- Currently employed as a software developer or have worked in the role within the past 12 months.
- Demonstrated experience with software design, coding, testing, and deployment.
- Ability to accurately communicate technical responsibilities and development practices.
- Must be legally eligible to work as an independent contractor in the United States.
- Must be located in the United States.
- Availability to complete an online survey or interview lasting approximately 30 minutes.
- Comfortable participating in remote research activities using standard online communication tools.
- Preferred: Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including system architecture and technical design leadership.
