Senior Book Editor — AI Evaluation

A structured AI evaluation initiative focused on reviewing and improving AI-generated editorial work across book manuscripts. The work centers on applying professional publishing standards to assess clarity, narrative structure, voice, grammar, and overall editorial quality.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced book editors with a demonstrated record of editing published books and providing nuanced, actionable editorial feedback. Prior AI experience is not required; strong editorial expertise is the primary qualification.
The work involves manuscript analysis, advanced editing, editorial guideline development, stakeholder collaboration, and quality control of AI-generated editorial outputs, where precision, literary judgment, and consistency are critical.
What You'll Do
- Review and enhance book manuscripts for clarity, structure, voice, consistency, and market alignment
- Perform advanced line editing, copyediting, and content restructuring
- Analyze plot, character development, thematic continuity, and narrative gaps
- Identify inconsistencies and opportunities for substantive improvement
- Develop editorial guidelines and best practices for AI evaluation workflows
- Draft and refine constructive, actionable editorial commentary
- Communicate editorial recommendations through written and verbal collaboration
- Review AI-generated editorial work for accuracy, quality, and stylistic consistency
- Apply established editorial standards consistently across manuscripts and genres
Requirements
- Extensive professional experience editing published books
- Demonstrated expertise in manuscript editing, line editing, and copyediting
- Exceptional command of English grammar, literary style, and written communication
- Strong ability to analyze narrative structure, character development, themes, and voice
- Experience providing detailed and actionable editorial feedback
- Ability to assess editorial quality against professional publishing standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment
- Comfort working with technology-enabled editorial workflows
- Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and editorial guidelines
- Availability to work as an independent contractor
- Preferred: Editorial experience with recognized publishing houses or prominent authors
