Physics Research Specialist – AI Scientific Reasoning

About the Role

A leading AI research initiative is seeking accomplished physics researchers to support the development of next-generation AI systems capable of advanced scientific reasoning. The work focuses on improving model performance across complex research domains including theoretical physics, quantum information, condensed matter, particle physics, astrophysics, plasma physics, AMO physics, biophysics, statistical physics, computational physics, and mathematical physics.

This opportunity is ideal for active researchers, postdoctoral scholars, faculty members, industry scientists, and highly accomplished doctoral candidates with demonstrated research impact. Selection is based primarily on the depth, originality, and quality of research contributions rather than years of professional experience.

The work involves creating and evaluating highly challenging scientific tasks, analyzing model reasoning performance, identifying domain-specific failure modes, and contributing expert insight to improve AI capabilities. Success in this role requires deep subject-matter expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to evaluate scientific reasoning at the level of an active researcher.

What You'll Do

  • Author advanced physics problems for AI training and evaluation
  • Review and validate scientific content across specialized physics domains
  • Evaluate AI-generated solutions involving theoretical analysis and quantitative reasoning
  • Assess model performance in numerical modeling, experimental design, and literature-based tasks
  • Identify reasoning failures, inaccuracies, and domain-specific errors
  • Provide expert feedback to improve scientific model capabilities
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary program teams and fellow researchers
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes for research-focused datasets and evaluations
  • Maintain high standards of scientific rigor and technical accuracy

Requirements

  • PhD, postdoctoral training, active doctoral candidacy, or equivalent advanced research experience in Physics or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated research expertise in one or more advanced physics specialties
  • Strong publication record in respected peer-reviewed journals or equivalent research output
  • Ability to evaluate complex scientific arguments, derivations, and methodologies
  • Experience conducting independent research and critical literature analysis
  • Strong written communication and technical review skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote research environment
  • Availability to contribute approximately 4–16 hours per week
  • Authorization to work within the United States under W-2 employment arrangements
  • Experience collaborating with research teams or scientific programs
