Patent & Trademark Practitioner — AI Legal Evaluation

About the Role

A high-impact legal AI initiative is seeking intellectual property professionals to support the development and evaluation of advanced legal reasoning systems. The work focuses on improving how AI models interpret patent prosecution, trademark practice, prior art analysis, and broader IP workflows through structured expert review.

This opportunity is ideal for practitioners with hands-on experience in patent or trademark matters who can apply strong analytical judgment and produce high-quality written legal work. Candidates with prosecution, litigation, or technical patent backgrounds are particularly well aligned with the scope of the project.

The work involves creating realistic IP scenarios, evaluating AI-generated outputs against professional standards, and delivering structured feedback within a research-driven environment where precision, consistency, and subject-matter expertise are critical.

What You'll Do

  • Develop realistic intellectual property scenarios based on professional practice
  • Draft high-quality reference responses for patent and trademark matters
  • Evaluate AI-generated legal outputs using structured scoring frameworks
  • Analyze office actions, prior art references, clearance opinions, and prosecution materials
  • Provide written feedback to improve model reasoning and legal accuracy
  • Participate in calibration sessions and onboarding activities
  • Support legal quality assurance across patent, trademark, and IP analysis workflows

Requirements

  • Registered patent agent or patent attorney status with USPTO, CIPO, or UKIPO, or demonstrated trademark prosecution experience
  • 1–4 years of experience in intellectual property prosecution or litigation
  • Active bar admission or relevant IP registration in good standing
  • Strong written communication skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience with patent drafting, office action responses, or trademark proceedings
  • Ability to assess complex legal reasoning and provide structured evaluations
  • Technical background in engineering, computer science, chemistry, or life sciences preferred
  • Availability for a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Must be based in the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote contract environment
  • Preferred qualifications include IP litigation experience, IPR/PGR exposure, portfolio management experience, and familiarity with patent analytics platforms such as PatSnap, Derwent, or Google Patents
