Intellectual Property Legal Specialist (AI Reasoning)

A high-impact legal AI initiative is seeking Intellectual Property professionals to contribute expert knowledge in patent and trademark law. The role focuses on improving advanced AI systems through the creation, evaluation, and analysis of complex intellectual property scenarios and legal reasoning tasks.
This opportunity is ideal for patent attorneys, trademark practitioners, IP litigators, and experienced legal professionals with a strong understanding of prosecution, portfolio strategy, and intellectual property analysis. Candidates who excel at legal writing, issue spotting, and structured evaluation will be particularly well suited for the position.
The work involves developing realistic IP-focused legal scenarios, assessing AI-generated legal analyses, and providing expert feedback to support model development, where precision, consistency, and adherence to legal standards are critical.
What You'll Do
- Design realistic intellectual property scenarios based on professional legal practice
- Draft attorney-quality reference responses for patent and trademark matters
- Evaluate AI-generated legal analyses using structured assessment criteria
- Review patent prosecution strategies, office action responses, and prior art analyses
- Assess trademark prosecution, clearance opinions, and related IP matters
- Analyze freedom-to-operate assessments and patentability evaluations
- Provide detailed written feedback to improve AI legal reasoning performance
- Participate in onboarding activities and calibration sessions
- Maintain consistency and accuracy across assigned review tasks
- Contribute subject-matter expertise to legal AI development initiatives
Requirements
- Registered patent attorney status, trademark prosecution experience, or equivalent intellectual property legal practice background
- Active bar admission, patent office registration, or relevant professional standing in an applicable jurisdiction
- 1–4 years of professional experience in intellectual property prosecution, counseling, or litigation
- Strong knowledge of patent and trademark law principles
- Experience with patent drafting, prosecution, prior art analysis, or trademark practice
- Excellent legal writing and analytical reasoning skills
- Ability to evaluate legal arguments and identify substantive issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to provide structured, objective feedback
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Availability for a minimum of approximately 15 hours per week
- Eligibility to work as an independent contractor
- Technical background in engineering, computer science, life sciences, chemistry, or a related field preferred
- Preferred: Experience with claim construction, invalidity analysis, or patent litigation support
- Preferred: Experience with patent portfolio management and IP strategy
- Preferred: Familiarity with post-grant proceedings, including IPR or related reviews
- Preferred: Experience using patent research and analytics platforms
- Preferred: Familiarity with AI-assisted legal workflows and tools such as ChatGPT or similar large language models
- Preferred: Experience preparing freedom-to-operate opinions, clearance analyses, or TTAB-related matters
