Go Software Engineer — Codebase Q&A
About the Role
A structured AI initiative focused on creating reinforcement-learning environments that teach AI agents to investigate and reason about unfamiliar production software repositories. The work centers on complex Go codebases where answers require understanding system behavior, runtime evidence, and repository history.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced Go engineers who can quickly navigate large, unfamiliar codebases and explain system behavior precisely. Strong candidates will have production Go experience, solid systems knowledge, and the ability to distinguish technically plausible answers from answers supported by evidence.
The work involves designing and validating challenging codebase-exploration tasks, refining questions and evaluation criteria, and documenting technical findings. Careful reasoning, reproducible validation, and precise technical writing are critical.
What You'll Do
- Select tasks from validated Go repositories pinned to specific git commits
- Investigate relevant subsystems, source code, runtime behavior, and repository history
- Rewrite engineering questions to require meaningful codebase exploration and runtime reasoning
- Refine positive and negative evaluation rubrics and plausible incorrect-answer foils
- Execute validation workflows in the designated development environment
- Iterate on tasks until validation stages pass consistently
- Document task methodology, findings, and solutions in task documentation
- Incorporate technical reviewer feedback and resubmit revised tasks
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Substantial production experience with Go
- Ability to navigate and reason about large, unfamiliar Go codebases
- Strong understanding of Go concurrency, interfaces, modules, and standard library
- Ability to analyze runtime behavior rather than relying solely on static source inspection
- Familiarity with generated code and software build tooling
- Strong command-line and Git skills, including commit-level investigation
- Comfortable working with containerized development environments
- Precise written English for technical questions, rubrics, and documentation
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
- Availability to complete identity verification, applicable screening, contractual documentation, and technical calibration requirements
- Preferred: experience with distributed systems, networking, storage engines, Kubernetes ecosystem tooling, or related infrastructure software
- Preferred: experience with repositories such as container orchestration, networking, databases, storage, observability, or developer infrastructure projects
