Company Event Propagation Analyst – Financial Research

Remote Contract Platform: Mercor

About the Role

A high-rigor financial research initiative requires experienced investment professionals to produce expert-authored analysis for evaluating and improving AI models on real-world company and market analysis. The work requires reasoning strictly from an established evidence cutoff without hindsight or information leakage.

This opportunity is ideal for senior sector portfolio managers, lead equity analysts, event-driven investors, or comparable professionals with deep industry expertise and demonstrated ability to map complex corporate relationships from primary sources.

The work involves identifying companies exposed to upcoming events, distinguishing direct economic exposure from weak thematic relationships, and estimating the likely direction, magnitude, timing, and confidence of the impact. Clear understanding of the underlying revenue, margin, earnings, or valuation mechanism is critical.

What You'll Do

  • Map suppliers, customers, competitors, distributors, substitutes, and geographic exposures using primary financial and industry sources.
  • Analyze EDGAR filings, footnotes, exhibits, earnings transcripts, and relevant industry data.
  • Identify companies likely to be affected by upcoming corporate or industry events.
  • Distinguish direct economic exposure from indirect or weak thematic correlation.
  • Estimate impact direction, magnitude, time horizon, and confidence for related companies.
  • Identify the specific revenue, margin, earnings, or valuation mechanism driving each expected impact.
  • Develop point-in-time analyses using only information available before the specified evidence cutoff.
  • Review model-generated financial analyses and evaluate them against professional standards.
  • Document analytical reasoning, evidence, assumptions, and conclusions clearly.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience as a sector portfolio manager, lead equity analyst, event-driven investor, or equivalent investment professional.
  • Typically 8+ years of direct experience in equity research, investment management, event-driven investing, or a closely related discipline.
  • Deep knowledge of at least one specific industry or sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to map a company's economic network using primary filings and original research rather than relying primarily on third-party classifications.
  • Strong understanding of corporate fundamentals, competitive dynamics, and financial statement drivers.
  • Ability to assess how business events propagate through suppliers, customers, competitors, distributors, substitutes, and geographic markets.
  • Strong analytical judgment regarding direction, magnitude, timing, and confidence of financial impacts.
  • Ability to reason strictly from a defined historical information cutoff without hindsight.
  • Commitment to avoiding confidential information, material non-public information, and data leakage.
  • Strong written communication and ability to articulate investment reasoning precisely.
  • Experience at a major asset manager, investment fund, bank, or specialist research organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated event-driven research or catalyst-analysis experience preferred.
