Child & Online Safety Expert
About the Role
A high-impact artificial intelligence safety initiative is seeking experienced child safety and mental health professionals to contribute specialized expertise toward the development of safer digital systems for young people. The work focuses on improving how AI systems recognize, assess, and respond to online safety and mental health risks affecting children and adolescents.
This opportunity is ideal for professionals with deep experience in crisis intervention, youth mental health, online safety, clinical risk assessment, or child protection. Individuals who can translate evidence-based practices into structured evaluation frameworks and practical guidance will be particularly well suited for this role.
The work involves developing safety standards, evaluating digital risk scenarios, designing assessment frameworks, and providing expert feedback within a structured project environment where accuracy, ethical judgment, and evidence-based decision-making are critical.
What You'll Do
- Develop taxonomies related to self-harm prevention, suicide prevention, eating disorders, emotional dependency, and youth wellbeing in digital environments
- Create frameworks for identifying and evaluating potentially harmful online content affecting minors
- Design and refine safety evaluation criteria, response frameworks, and escalation protocols
- Assess digital risk scenarios involving vulnerable youth populations
- Establish best-practice standards for online mental health support and safety interventions
- Review safety guidelines and benchmarks to ensure alignment with current research and professional standards
- Provide expertise on child online protection, exploitation risks, and related policy considerations
- Evaluate AI-generated responses for safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to improve safety methodologies and quality standards
- Deliver detailed written and verbal feedback to support continuous improvement of AI safety systems
Requirements
- Professional experience in child safety, adolescent mental health, crisis intervention, or related fields
- Strong understanding of youth wellbeing, online safety risks, and digital support environments
- Experience conducting risk assessments and developing intervention or safety frameworks
- Knowledge of suicide prevention, self-harm prevention, eating disorder support, or related mental health domains
- Ability to evaluate complex safety scenarios and make evidence-based recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical thinking and sound professional judgment
- Ability to create clear, structured documentation and evaluation criteria
- Experience working within multidisciplinary or collaborative environments
- Commitment to ethical standards, safeguarding principles, and vulnerable-user protection
- Ability to work independently while adhering to project guidelines and quality expectations
- Preferred: Licensed therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor, clinician, social worker, or equivalent mental health professional
- Preferred: Advanced degree, specialized certification, or substantial operational experience in child safety or mental health
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience in adolescent mental health, crisis-care, suicide prevention, eating disorder intervention, or related disciplines
- Preferred: Experience with online safety programs, child protection initiatives, or exploitation prevention efforts
- Preferred: Familiarity with AI safety evaluation, content moderation frameworks, policy development, or AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT
- Preferred: Demonstrated leadership, research, or recognized contributions within mental health, crisis response, or child safety domains
